How Does the Weight Converter Work?
The converter works through kilograms, converting your input in and then out. Strictly these are units of mass rather than weight, since weight is a force that depends on gravity, but in everyday use the terms are interchangeable and every unit here measures mass. Because the pound has an exact metric definition, the conversions are exact rather than approximate.

Common Weight Conversions and When You Need Them
Body weight is the most common case, moving between kilograms, pounds and the stone still used in the United Kingdom. A person of 70 kilograms weighs about 154 pounds, or 11 stone.
Cooking and baking is the second, where accuracy matters most: recipes give grams or ounces, and baking by weight rather than volume is what makes results repeatable. Shipping is the third, where couriers price by kilogram but packaging is often labelled in pounds, and the fourth is fitness, where plates and dumbbells are sold in either unit and a 45 pound plate is about 20.4 kilograms.
What Are the Standard Weight Measurements?
The kilogram is an SI base unit, defined since 2019 by fixing the Planck constant rather than by a physical artefact. The gram is one thousandth of a kilogram and the tonne is 1,000 kilograms. The international avoirdupois pound is defined as exactly 0.45359237 kilograms, which makes the ounce exactly 28.349523125 grams. The stone is 14 pounds. The troy ounce used for precious metals is different again at about 31.10 grams.
