Frequently Asked Questions
Is a coin flip truly 50/50?
This virtual coin uses JavaScript's Math.random(), giving exactly 50% probability for each side. A real physical coin is close to 50/50 but research suggests it may land slightly more often on the side it started, by about 1%. Virtually, it is perfectly fair.
What is the probability of 5 heads in a row?
The probability of flipping 5 consecutive heads is (0.5)^5 = 1/32, or about 3.1%. For 10 in a row: 1/1024 (0.1%). Streaks like these feel surprising but are entirely expected with truly random coin flips.
How do I use a coin flip for decisions?
Assign one option to heads and the other to tails, flip, then notice your reaction. If you feel relieved, the coin helped you decide. If you feel disappointed, that is your real preference showing. The coin does not make the decision, it reveals it.
What is the best way to flip a fair coin?
For a physical coin, flip it at least 30cm high so it rotates multiple times before catching. Slapping it onto the back of your hand adds extra randomness. Avoid flipping in one hand only, as slight preferences in technique can bias the result.
Can I flip multiple coins at once?
Yes. Enter any number from 2 to 100 in the "Flip X times" field and click Flip All. The results appear as an H/T sequence. The total statistics also update to include all flips.
